Třinecké železárny is still the major supplier to the automotive industry
Despite global recession, which has negatively affected a wide range of industries including steel since the end of 2008, the Třinecké železárny – Moravia Steel Group is maintaining a leading position in the supply chain for the automotive industry. The production in the form of wire rod and bars continues to be located across a number of major processors use in dozens of models of cars and trucks of renowned brands.
Of the total annual production of 950 kilotons of wire rod and 600 kilotons of steel bars, the Group supplies approximately 40 percent to European and global car manufacturers, either directly or through other processors, or as the production of spare parts. Products from Třinec can be found in cars such as Volkswagen, Škoda, Porsche, Audi, Mercedes, TPCA, Renault, BMW, Fiat, Ford, Peugeot, Daimler, Honda, Suzuki, Toyota, as well as trucks, including Volvo, Scania and DAF.
“Regarding cars, the largest share of products from our wire rod can be found in tire cords, which are supplied directly to the tire manufacturers Michelin, Pirelli, and Continental. Our wire rod is also used in screws, springs, bearings, the welded parts (wire for welding machines) and stamped parts, such as the bodies of spark plugs, pins for control and braking systems,” says Moravia Steel Commercial Director Mr. Krzysztof Ruciński with the fact that from the Třinec wire rod also smaller parts for cars are made, which include guiding roller brakes, towing eye, wipers, oil level gauges, locking systems, seat restraints, tapping screws, springs for seats upholstery as well as other parts.
The TŽ – MS Group delivers its products directly only for Skoda Auto, respectively, for their froges. “It’s transformed to the parts, which end in engines, transmissions and chassis parts for cars of the Volkswagen Group, and these are the shafts, gears, traction devices, tenon joints, and the pinions,” says the director.
The largest volume of steel bars designed for the automotive industry, particularly through the Czech, Polish, German and Slovak forges. An important group consists of buyers from manufacturers of bearings and springs for cars and trucks, which include also Hanácké pérovny Prostějov, the member of the TŽ – MS Group.
Other members of the TŽ – MS Group also process the steel bars. For example, Šroubárna Kyjov produces bearing rings for manufacturers of bearings designed for the automotive industry, VÚHŽ rolls the special sections for automobile door hinges and drawing mill Ferromoravia produces drawn steel.
