Environment

An inseparable part of the business plan of TŘINECKÉ ŽELEZÁRNY (TZ) has been for number of years an environment protection program. TZ makes permanent efforts to decrease the ecological load in its vicinity. The long-term conceptual work in this area brings gradually positive effects in the surrounding country.


Permanent reduction of discharged gaseous emissions and dust is visible in gradual regeneration of the surrounding Beskydy forests. The system of closed water circles and waste water treatment plants ensures economical disposal of surface water sources and low level of waste water pollution released to water courses.

An elaborate water system with a number of water treatment stations and other water works makes it possible for TZ to discharge into water courses the water of the same quality as the water taken from the surrounding water sources for its industrial activities. The handling of large-scale and low-scale wastes that are generated in the production processes of TZ also complies with the requirements of present time. A significant part of the wastes is recycled and reused in the metallurgical production, another part is utilized as a secondary raw material for further processing in the other branches of industry. The waste that can not be recycled or otherwise processed is stored on the controlled dumps in such a way that its deposit complies with the strict hygienic standards prescribed by the law on wastes.

Our program of environmental protection always includes the care of natural greens at the territory of iron and steel works. As a matter of course is also care of a bio-corridor along the Olše river which flows through the works on the distance of almost 7 km as well as the maintenance of green areas in Třinec town and its vicinity. An important activity is a solution of old environmental loads where an realization project has been already elaborated with the objective of gradual sanitization of the contaminated area. Also in this field the first successes have been achieved and a phased solution of this financially and technically demanding task is prepared in accordance with an elaborated long-term program. All the above mentioned facts prove that TZ has a permanent interest in reduction of iron and steel production impact on the environment.

QUALITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY IN TŽ AND MS
as specified by ČSN EN ISO 9001, VDA 6.1 and ČSN EN ISO 14001


The key business of TŘINECKÉ ŽELEZÁRNY, a.s., MORAVIA STEEL a.s. and TŽ Billet Mill (SCHV), a.s., is the production and sale of metallurgical products, the added value of which is boosted by applying the principles of continual improvement, while the environmental load is subject to unceasing reduction in terms of the applied technologies and products. The following main approaches and principles are defined in the individual areas of the enterprise strategy:

A. Partnership
The customers, material processors and suppliers are all considered partners in that they make their contribution to the resultant quality of our products. In its gist, the partnership is oriented to both existing and future requirements posed by the customers and the processors of our material. Great emphasis is placed upon enlarging co-operation with these partners mainly in the field of more demanding wire grades, special bar quality and rails. We are ready to accommodate various requirements of our partners, including state and regional authorities, for lowering the environmental impact of the applied technologies and products. Former ecological loads of TŘINECKÉ ŽELEZÁRNY, a.s. are being gradually removed. Our partners are provided with all relevant information and guarantees.
Our attempt is to comply with the safety programme of serious emergency prevention and to continue in supporting communication within the company with both, the administrative authorities and the general public.

B. Technology
The production base development scheme, technological and research activities are approached to allow for improvement of product quality and introduction of new products and production technologies and are designed in such a way as to:
• comply with the existing and envisaged customers' quality requirements,
• allow for efficient consumption of raw materials, feedstock and energy and for reduction in their consumption,
• restrict the amount of resultant waste and maximise the share of waste re-applied in the production process,
• reduce preventively the total negative impacts of the production on the health and lives of people, on the living environment and property,
• minimise the impacts upon the health and lives of the people, living environment and property.

C. People
Increasing the intellectual capital is the first choice approach in human resources management. The outcome is better:
• qualification, knowledge and ability on the part of all executive and managing employees,
• awareness of responsibility for the quality of end and semi-finished products,
• environmental awareness povědomí with the objective to provide prevention in an attempt to reduce the degree of contaminating the environment,
• plant safety, health protection and labour environment.
• level of prevention of serious emergencies on all managerial levels.
There is a system of staff preparation and motivation developed to cover the needs of all existing and envisaged development projects while at the same time the undesirable effects of fluctuation among key employees is repressed.


D. Management
In the production and key servicing activities, the principles of process approach with major attention being paid to the issue of prevention, are reinforced, which, linked with project management and team work on all levels, are the keystone for improving the management system including quality and environmental management systems. A management system focused on measurable both collective and individual performance is applied and prevention of serious emergencies.
The management system responds to the new generally applicable legal regulations and standards in the domain of quality, environmental protection and prevention of serious emergencies.
The management system aimed to measurable enforcement of unit and individuals has being developed.
