An inseparable part of the business plan of TŘINECKÉ ŽELEZÁRNY (TZ) has been for number of years an environment protection program. TZ makes permanent efforts to decrease the ecological load in its vicinity. The long-term conceptual work in this area brings gradually positive effects in the surrounding country.
Permanent reduction of discharged gaseous emissions and dust is visible in gradual regeneration of the surrounding Beskydy forests. The system of closed water circles and waste water treatment plants ensures economical disposal of surface water sources and low level of waste water pollution released to water courses.
An elaborate water system with a number of water treatment stations and other water works makes it possible for TZ to discharge into water courses the water of the same quality as the water taken from the surrounding water sources for its industrial activities. The handling of large-scale and low-scale wastes that are generated in the production processes of TZ also complies with the requirements of present time. A significant part of the wastes is recycled and reused in the metallurgical production, another part is utilized as a secondary raw material for further processing in the other branches of industry. The waste that can not be recycled or otherwise processed is stored on the controlled dumps in such a way that its deposit complies with the strict hygienic standards prescribed by the law on wastes.
Our program of environmental protection always includes the care of natural greens at the territory of iron and steel works. As a matter of course is also care of a bio-corridor along the Olše river which flows through the works on the distance of almost 7 km as well as the maintenance of green areas in Třinec town and its vicinity. An important activity is a solution of old environmental loads where an realization project has been already elaborated with the objective of gradual sanitization of the contaminated area. Also in this field the first successes have been achieved and a phased solution of this financially and technically demanding task is prepared in accordance with an elaborated long-term program. All the above mentioned facts prove that TZ has a permanent interest in reduction of iron and steel production impact on the environment.

The key business of TŘINECKÉ ŽELEZÁRNY, a.s., and MORAVIA STEEL a.s. is the production and sales of steel products, where application of principles of continuous improvement is employed to increase the added value while saving the costs and reducing environmental impacts at the same time. The following fundamental approaches and principles are defined in respective fields of the strategic framework:
A. Partnership
The customers, material processing units and suppliers are deemed to be partners contributing to the quality of our products. The essence of the collaboration is the focus on current and future requirements of customers and processors of our materials. Special attention is given to the issue of extending collaboration with these partners, namely in the field of the most demanding rod products, special bar steel, rails and pipes. As important regional company we keep optimal ratio of regional suppliers.
We respond to the requirements of our partners, including the State and regional bodies, for reducing the environmental impact of the used technologies and the actual products while gradually removing old environmental burdens of TŘINECKÉ ŽELEZÁRNY, a.s. We provide our partners with all relevant data and guarantees.
Our efforts are focused on compliance with the safety program of prevention of serious accidents, as well as to persist in supporting in-company communication, as well as communication with the administrative bodies and the public.
B. Technology
Development of the production base, technological and research activities are focused on increasing the quality of products, introduction of new products and production technologies to achieve the following while ensuring financial savings:
- meet the current and future requirements of our customers for quality of supplies,
- effectively use raw materials, materials and energies and reduce consumption thereof,
- limit quantity of generated waste and increasing the rate of reuse of the same,
- preventively reduce the overall negative impacts of production upon health and lives of people, environment and property,
- minimize greenhouse gas generation,
- minimize impacts of serious emergencies on health of people, environment and property.
With respect to more rigorous shipment quality assessment by our customers, adequate supervision over solutions of their complaints and observance of working and technological processes has been assured.
C. People
Keeping the legal provisions in area of human rights and increasing of the intellectual capital is the essential approach in the human resource management. It leads to increased:
- qualification, knowledge and capabilities of staff in all operating and managerial positions,
- awareness of responsibility for quality of products and semis,
- environmental awareness with the objective to promote prevention focused on reducing environmental pollution,
- level of staff health protection and working environment,
- level of serious accident prevention at all management levels.
The staff training and motivation system is developed to cover all needs of the existing and upcoming development projects, while suppressing undesirable fluctuation of key personnel. It has been focused namely on professional training and QMS & EMS training. Emphasis is laid upon the use of internal tutors and improved knowledge sharing in order to make the most of the planned funds.
D. Management
In the production and key servicing activities, principles of process approach are being reinforced with the focus on prevention which, linked with project management and team work on all levels, are the basis for improving the quality management system, environment and serious accident prevention.
The management system responds to changing business surrounding by optimization of managing processes in TŽ-MS group.The management system responds to any new generally applicable legal regulations and standards in the field of quality, environmental protection, prevention of serious emergencies and protection of information systems.
The management system focusing on measurable performance of individuals and teams is being developed.
In the processes, the Zero Defect Strategy is applied to production management, equipment availability, non-conformities, staff, especially for supplies to automotive industry chains.
TŽ and MS Management Commitment
Within the scope of their competences, each member of the management:
- seeks to provide sufficient human, material and financial resources, including potential use of European Structural Funds to achieve the goals, reviewing their availability and adequacy and guarantees purposeful utilization thereof,
- takes decisions exclusively in accordance with the legal regulations and standards in the field of quality, environment and serious accident prevention together with repression of corruptive behavior in any form.
The Company Management expects their staff to perform their duties in a flawless way and adopt an active approach to continuous labour improvement of both individuals and teams, ultimately leading to the meeting of the objectives at all workplaces.
